Scholarship opportunities for training courses in The Netherlands!

With this post we would like to draw your attention to the new NFP deadline coming up for mid career professionals from development organisations in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
As of 1 August you can apply in the online application system of Nuffic (Scholarship Online  – SOL).  The application is open again for six MDF courses organised in spring 2014 for applicants from 50 countries.
NFP deadline 1 October 2013

Application period: 1 August till 1 October 2013. Start early enough to be sure you have time enough to assemble all necessary documentation.
Application requirement: Criteria: mid career professional from one of the 50 NFP countries working in a development organisation in a relevant position

The Internet Society is pleased to invite applications for the 2013 Internet Society Ambassadors to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF).
As part of the Internet Society’s Next Generation Leaders (NGL) programme, the Ambassadorships to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) are available to Internet Society members between the ages of 20 and 40.

The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) is a multi-stakeholder forum for policy dialogue on issues of Internet governance. It brings together government, private sector, and civil society stakeholders, including the technical and academic community, on an equal basis and through an open and inclusive process. The IGF facilitates a common understanding of how to maximize Internet opportunities and address risks and challenges that arise.

About the 2013 Ambassadors to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF):In 2013, the theme of Internet Governance Forum (IGF) will be “Building Bridges-Enhancing Multistakeholder Cooperation for Growth and Sustainable Development.”  The Forum will be held in Bali, Indonesia from the 22-25 October 2013.
Ambassadors to the IGF may be involved in various activities at the Forum, including contributions to the IGF Ambassadors’ blog, participating broadly in the IGF meeting agenda and assisting with staffing of the Internet Society booth at the venue. Wellcome Trust New Investigator Awards for Junior/ University lecturers within the first five years of their independent research careers

The Wellcome Trust is particularly interested in receiving applications from university lecturers within the first five years of their independent research careers. To be eligible for a New Investigator Award you should be based in the UK, Republic of Ireland or a low- or middle-income country. New Investigator Awards provide a flexible package of funding that is driven by the requirements of the proposed research.

The award covers the direct costs of carrying out the research, such as:

v  Research expenses; this may include research assistance, animals, equipment, fieldwork costs and funding for collaborative activity

v  travel and subsistence for scientifically justified visits

v  overseas allowances where appropriate

Wellcome Trust Training Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine

This scheme provides researchers from low- and middle-income countries – who are at an early stage in the establishment of their research careers – with opportunities for research experience and high-quality research training in public health and tropical medicine. Research should be aimed at understanding and improving public health and diseases of local, national and global relevance. This fellowship is normally forthree years (non-renewable), but may be for up to four years for those who wish to undertake a relevant Master’s training or diploma course. It provides support that includes:

v  a basic salary for the fellow

v  research expenses (e.g. consumables, equipment, collaborative travel, research assistance, technical support, fieldwork and data collection)

v  training costs where appropriate and justified

v  an inflation and flexible funding allowance

v  Support to attend scientific meetings.

Contributions to costs of the project that are directly incurred by the overseas institution may also be provided. If you are already in receipt of a salary from the host institution, the host institution may use the salary to pay for a replacement member of staff while the Trust provides your salary for the duration of the fellowship. It is not expected that you will receive a salary in addition to the one provided by the Trust.

Note that any requests for research assistance on this junior-level fellowship must be strongly justified.

Research-dedicated costs (excluding salary costs) should not normally exceed £30 000 per annum. Overseas allowances will be provided for periods of training and collaborative research spent outside the home institution country, where appropriate.

Wellcome Trust Senior Fellowships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine

This scheme supports outstanding researchers from low- and middle-income countries to establish themselves as leading investigators at an academic institution in a low- and middle-income country location. We will consider applications that fall within the Public Health and Tropical Medicine remit. This covers research on infectious and non-communicable diseases within the fields of public health and tropical medicine that is aimed at understanding and controlling diseases (either human or animal) of relevance to local, national or global health.

The TED Fellows program is designed to bring together young world-changers and trailblazers who have shown unusual accomplishment and exceptional courage. The program targets individuals from the Asia/Pacific region, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Middle East, though anyone from anywhere in the world, age 18 and over, is welcome to apply. TED is looking for an eclectic, heterogeneous group of young thinkers and doers from the fields of technology, entertainment, design, the sciences, engineering, humanities, the arts, economics, business, journalism, entrepreneurship and NGOs. We are targeting applicants of ages 21-40 from five target regions: Africa, Asia/Pacific, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East. The Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program provides support to young researchers working in academic and research institutions from eligible countries preparing a doctoral thesis.

Research grants cover residence costs for a 5 to 10 month period in a renowned university or research center. Fellows are expected to advance their research work mainly by using the facilities and resources provided by the host institution and by interacting with peers. Only lecturers and researchers from eligible countries working on their doctoral thesis can apply for the fellowship. Candidates should be under 45 years, and have completed any course work or exams required for their doctoral program.

Women’s Water Fund Call for Proposals: Short Capacity Building Visits to Denmark

Applicants from developing countries are invited to apply for Women’s Water Fund which offers them career opportunities in the field of water resources development and management. The Fund supports short capacity building visits to Denmark. The visits will include a combination of formal training and “hands-on” interaction with managers in public authorities and in the water industry. The Fund will cover all travel, accommodation and living costs. It is the intention that the Fund will maintain longer duration contact with the participants. This year’s programme includes a two-week training and management internship in Denmark from 14 to 29 September 2013. The present programme/study visit in September 2013 is for women from developing countries in Africaand Asia.

IDEA Applied and Professional Ethics Scholarships

The IDEA Centre is able to fund a number of fees scholarships for the MA in Applied and Professional Ethicsfor entry in 2013. Up to six scholarships will be available. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence, which will be assessed by considering the candidate’s application to the University and supporting documents, and the interview conducted as part of the admissions process.
